About the project
‘On Your DoorStep’ Commissioned by Rochdale Public Health. Film Maker Kirstie Henderson, Producer Abigail Hellam, Filming Assistant Micah Stalgic, Executive Producer Jodie Ratcliffe, Director Parvez Qadir.
On Your Doorstep is an initiative developed in collaboration between Public Health Rochdale, ourselves (Breaking Barriers) and local visual artist Babs Smith. The programme aimed to document how local residents benefited from local green spaces around Rochdale. Each film celebrates the local community, the health and wellbeing benefits and personal stories of accessing these spaces right on their doorstep.
These five films are set across North Rochdale, South Rochdale, Middleton, Pennines and Heywood.
Breaking Barriers and visual artist Babs Smith visited Kentmere Academy, where they got year 5’s to create a series of pictures depicting their favourite seasons and outdoor activities. They then later were displayed in an exhibition at Richard Street Studios.
